Silverstone Temjin Series TJ08 mATX Case
The Interior
The first things you notice when the side is removed are the fans. Its pretty hard to miss two 120mm fans in such a small case. Silverstone have done an amazing job by basing this case design around large fans. Having large fans allows for maximum airflow at the slowest speed (rpm), thereby reducing the noise generated. Also, 120mm fans generally have a quieter ‘whooshy’ tone than smaller fans which are generally have more of a ‘whine’ to them.
The fans themselves are rated at 1200rpm at 21dBA which is virtually silent. Silverstone have even included a fan filter on the front fan, to prevent excess dust from entering the case.
Once the amazement regarding the two fans subsides, one starts to realize that there may be some issues with large coolers. The location of the hard drive bays are right next to the CPU socket location on most mATX motherboards, so some larger coolers (such as those with 120mm fans) may not fit (more on this later). Also a potential issue is the power supply area, which is also relatively cramped and could pose issues when large power supplies are used with long optical drives.
The motherboard tray is fully removable, although not in the typical slide out fashion. In the TJ08, the motherboard tray slides back a little then tilts outwards until fully removed. This means that in order to remove the motherboard tray, all the expansion cards must be detached and any large CPU coolers will probably need to be removed or at least have their fan removed. This isn’t a major issue, but with the attention to detail displayed on the rest of the case, Silverstone could have designed this a little better.
Lets now have a look at the ease of installation of an actual system and see just where the space bottlenecks lie…
